I have been teaching Archery now to both kids and adults for a year and a half. All of my students, I have seen, gain something from the experience, just as I did when I first began shooting. It is a feeling of complete focus. In the moment of loosing an arrow, your eyes, your arms, your awareness, and intention are all pointed at one single location. After it hits, you do it again and again until you feel satisfied hitting your goal.
Here are the top five reason to start archery young.
It is a Indoor/Outdoor Physical Activity which Builds Strength.
Archery is not a sport which requires a lot of running around, but it dose build a substantial amount of muscular strength and control. The form of the upper body and stance create the desired posture development and when fetching your arrows you achieve a good amount of aerobic activity.
Archery Increases Attention Span, Focus and Determination.
When you loose arrows repetitively at one single location you begin to focus in and block out any distractions either mental or those which surround you. This is a life skill that is required in so many different circumstances.
It is a Primitive and Historic Skill.
Archery is a historic art that has been around for centuries and used in almost every culture. When you or your child learn to shoot you are learning something that is most likely in your genes and that can, if you choose, be used to hunt and sustain life.
The Archer will Gain a sense of Empowerment and Independence
You are the only one who puts your arrow in the target, are when that happens, there is a rush of adrenalin. Every archer shoots their own way and has to find their unique style.
ARCHERY is FUN!!
No matter, young or old, you are going to have a great time doing Archery.
